Thank you for taking the time to read it. She's long! And most people only know the bits and pieces. Hopefully the transparency inspires community members to try and help move things forward where they can.
I am very committed to DEI in all areas of my life and, in particular, to the goals and ambitions of well intentioned advocates and neighbors here in Cherry Grove. I and others have supported financially and in many other ways the goals you espouse...and not as “Johnny Come Lately’s”, but for decades.
Sadly, your post is full of personal invective. It comes across as frustrated and angry. Rather than entertain what are clearly your personal “beefs “with particular persons, I’d like to hear about your views concerning the impact of the efforts undertaken to date to accomplish our shared vision. Many of us in the Grove and Pines have enthusiastically joined in the effort to move the needle in addressing real and perceived inequities. With respect, BaBEC is not the one and only way to go.
My post is angry and personal as I explicitly state that at the top of the article. There was never a point where I tried to veil that. And it's an anger that I'm entitled to after three years of people and organizations in the Cherry Grove trying to diminish my efforts bc I don't implement them in a way that they agree with. I've also publicly said on several occasions how having multiple committees or organizations doing antiracist work is a good thing but much of DEI's work, esp in the beginning has been in spite of BaBEC. And it's not antiracist as the only time you all ever use the word Black is during Juneteenth.
It's nice to hear that you've been supporting these goals for decades. How has that manifested in Cherry Grove before 2020? Bc your neighbors who have been in the community for an equal amount of time tell me very often that it has not. I've been out here for nine years and have never heard of them.
If you feel like my anger is irrational after seeing the full spectrum of targeted transgressions against me and my organization, esp given BaBEC's goals and intentions, maybe you should start investing some of that money into your own education. Or advocate for DEI and APCG to join BaBEC in unconscious bias training. Bc we are clearly at an impasse and need to find a way forward, even if it is marginal.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this. I was tangentially aware of bits and pieces of it, but I had no idea of the full extent.
